1999 Gibson Hard Rock Café RockFest Flying V *Super* Rare Anyone that has come across my auctions knows I have an undying fascination with unique and rare guitars. When I saw this guitar for the first time, it was a no-brainer. I had to have it. Now it is time for someone else to cherish and enjoy this rare bird. This auction is for my 1999 Gibson Hard Rock Café ROCKFEST Flying V serial # 91209735 . I have owned 3 others, including 91209738 and 91299704. Now you would figure that every serial number from 704-738 would be a HardRock right?? WRONG! Not the case. When they were making these, they skipped around a great many serial numbers for whatever reason. When I called Gibson, I spent a deal of time on the phone with them about this one. This guitar was a special promotion piece for Oldsmobile Alero and the Hard Rock Café 1999 ROCKFEST concert series. With Gibson’s help, we were able to determine at least 10 of these guitars were made. It is possible 20-25 exist, but we did confirm 10 (including this one). So what does this mean? This is a very rare, collectible USA Gibson Flying V. This axe is in VERY GOOD condition. It was played, but not abused. The extent of wear is on top of the low E. There are pick marks on the blue paint. The Rear body is in excellent condition. Played sitting down most likely as there is no buckle rash on the back. On the left side body edge, toward the bottom is a dent into the wood. Thankfully the finish is still there. I took a photograph with the tip of a pen above. The headstock is in great shape for a 1999. It is starting to show some wear on the round, oval edges. Nothing major, but I have to mention it to be fair. This one is still in the original Gibson Flying V hardshell case you see pictured. It has the pink satin shroud and the case lock combination instructions. The case itself is in VERY GOOD condition as well with the exception of the combination latch being unbolted from the top case cover. All the other latches are operational and this case continues to protect this rare Flying V from the outside world. I still find it amazing as the years go on and I continue to collect the rare, unique guitars of the world that when you find a certain rare model, like this Hard Rock ROCKFEST Flying V, that the serial numbers match up as they should. Guitars made on the same day, in the same plant, by the same hands. What was the Hard Rock Café ROCKFEST? Good question.
