SANTA CRUZ - Singer-songwriter Jacklyn Partida and her Santa Cruz-based Jackie Rocks Band are climbing the ladder of musical success and possible stardom, but she said it won't sway her from getting her college degree.
"I want to study to be a nutritionist in college," Partida said. "Education is important, even in the music business."
The Jackie Rocks Band will open for the band Falling in Reverse Tuesday at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz.
Signed by Epitaph Records in Hollywood, Falling in Reverse is on a national tour promoting its new Top 20 Billboard Chart album, "The Drug in Me is You."
Partida plays lead guitar and performs lead vocals along with De' Andre Warren (base guitar and vocals), both of Santa Cruz, with Greg Brock of San Jose on drums. Partida and Warren started singing together when they were barely out of the crib.
"We met in preschool," Partida said.
A 17-year-old senior at Pacific Collegiate School in Santa Cruz, Partida is a seasoned performer.
