SHIRLEY -- Mark Marquis and his band, The Mark Marquis Group, will take the stage with a blend of jazz, blues, rock, fusion, and world music at 8 p.m. Saturday at The Bull Run Restaurant.
Marquis exudes a smooth electric sound with his shock of platinum hair falling across the strap of his Gibson Les Paul.
A Leominster resident, Marquis grew up in a musical family and has fond memories of watching the Beatles make their debut on "The Ed Sullivan Show" from his parents' living room.
"I secretly started playing guitar by sneaking my brother's guitar when he wasn't around," he said.
Marquis, who studied piano as well, initially played by ear.
"Then I learned how to read and write music," he said.
As a young musician, Marquis had many idols, including Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Jimi Hendrix and
