A lesson in music
Daniel Weston's guitar lesson also is well-informed by his appreciation for geography and nature.
Weston, a former resident of Calaveras County, outlines - in chords and words - the history of classical acoustic guitar Sunday at one of this favorite places to play: The Haggin Museum in Stockton.
He'll mostly perform music by six-string masters dating back to 1561, along with his own "Joy of the Big Trees."
Weston's program is inspired by historical role models - from Johann Sebastian Bach to Spain's Francisco Tarrega ("a great heavyweight") - and his Rand McNally odyssey.
Originally from Madison, Wis., he's lived in Boston; Honolulu - he attended Punahou School, President Barack Obama's alma mater; Scottsdale, Ariz.; Redlands; Kalispell, Mont.; Lincoln, Neb.; Santa Fe and Taos (his current home), N.M.; Arnold and Murphys.
"Definitely," Weston said of his itinerant upbringing, speaking from Redlands after driving overnight from Tucson. "Especially the natural aspects of places I've been. There are a lot of natural themes."
