Acoustic Guitar Strings Difference | Black Berry Guitars
I’m changing a broken string on my guitar and having never done this am wondering if there is a difference between electric and acoustic strings. I got some strings with my acoustic guitar as a present and would like to know if these strings are universal or if there’s a difference. Thanks.
Guitar strings can be made of a variety of materials. Acoustic guitars can use both nylon strings and steel strings, though these strings are designed for specific types of guitars (classical guitars for nylon string, for example). Electric guitars also use steel strings, but there are differences between steel strings for electric and acoustic guitars.
So no, don’t throw the acoustic string on your electric; even if they’re both steel, they’re different.

Master fingerstyle guitarist to perform
Master fingerstyle guitarist to performAlex de Grassi, whose innovative approach to composing and arranging for solo steel-string guitar has influenced generations of players, will return to the Central Coast for a 3 p.m. concert Sunday.
Cal Poly Arts will present the master acoustic guitarist in an intimate, all-new performance in the Performing Arts Center Pavilion at Cal Poly.
De Grassi will present a free preconcert lecture for ticket holders at 2 p.m., also in the Pavilion.
De Grassi’s compositions resemble orchestral overtures more than mere songs, a Cal Poly Arts spokesman said.
From his first solo performances in university coffeehouses and as a street musician to his engagements at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and the Montreux Jazz Festival, de Grassi helped lay the foundation for contemporary fingerstyle guitar.
Inspired by American and British Isles folk and blues artists in his early teens, de Grassi’s musical pursuits soon expanded to encompass classical, jazz and world music.
